A Portsmouth Gymnasium Experiences Water Damage

The broken pipe allowed water to flow over the very expensive hardwood flooring of this school gym in Portsmouth. Our SERVPRO of The Seacoast ASD applied structural drying technicians utilized their training and equipment to set up a tried and true methodology of water cleanup and drying. We quickly used a truck-mounted pump to extract the surface water, leaving moisture remaining in the joints and the concrete subfloor. It was not practical to deploy drying mats to finish the drying process, so we sent up a large "tent" as depicted in the After Photo. This directed the forced warm air into the areas needed without dealing with the large volume of ambient air in the gym. Pictured are several of many LGR low grain refrigerant dehumidifiers, each capable of pulling up to 25 gallons of moisture in a 24-hour cycle. After two days of slow drying, so not to splinter the planks with overzealous heat and pressure, our moisture meters indicated the sub-surface was back to normal levels of moisture content. Several hardwood boards had cupped and were replaced. Overall, the municipality was thrilled with the result. "Like it never even happened."
